Over the course of British history, the question of immigration has been a controversial one. The last 70 years has seen migration numbers increase; especially from those coming from South Asian countries; even though the original voucher scheme was stopped after the publication of the Commonwealth Immigrants Act 1968. The act; was a regulation to “restrict the future right of entry previously enjoyed by citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies, to those born there or who had at least one parent or grandparent born there”, in other words only those people were welcome who have been born in the country or had at least one parent living here. This is the feeling caused by the thousands of people fluctuating in to the country; hiding themselves away and refusing to integrate in to a completely unpredictable environment.

Police and Commissioner confirm recruitment of 450 new constables

West Midlands Police will recruit 450 new constables over the next two years from April onwards, it has been confirmed. Potential applicants will be able to begin registering their interest by logging on to a newly launched area of the force’s website from next Monday (10 February).

The current recruitment freeze, which has been in place for five years, will end and a new application process will open as the search begins for a fresh, new and diverse group of recruits.

Residents advised to tighten up on their home security

Residents in the Abbey ward, Leicester, are being advised to tighten up on their home security following an increase in burglaries in the area.

 

During the last 76 days (November 1, 2013 to January 15, 2014) there have been 63 burglaries spread out across the Abbey ward, compared to 26 burglaries in the previous 76 day period (August 17, 2013 to October 31, 2013). Of the 63 burglaries, 30 have been due to insecure doors or windows.

 

The ward stretched from the inner ring road to Birstall, and includes Stocking Farm, Mowmacre Hill and Frog Island.

Our country is a very diverse place to live, and home to people from a variety of different backgrounds. On my last visit to Birmingham I saw for myself the immense contribution that people from a range of faiths and cultures make to our society.

My name is Manrina Rekhi. I am a dentist. When I was at school I always wanted to become an actor and I started down that pathway by studying drama for A-Level. But I chose to study history, maths and theatre studies. My headmistress took me to the side and said you’re very good at science and art and a nice way of combining the two would be dentistry; so why not consider moving over to do chemistry, maths and biology; and then look in to dentistry. I did some work experience with dentistry and I thought “yeah it is quite creative” and it seemed like an easier choice, with a five year degree.

 

So I changed my A-Level and became a dentist and thought that because I am so creative, cosmetic seemed like the obvious choice for me. I have been doing that for nearly 12 years now. I have always had a sneaky feeling inside me that I wanted

POLICE are becoming increasingly concerned for a 101-year-old man missing from his Hillfields home in Coventry. Atta Mohammed, who uses two walking sticks, was last seen at his home in Leicester Causeway at 11.30am yesterday morning (Thursday). Birmingham man jailed for 17 years for blackmail and rape

A man who blackmailed a woman by threatening to share photos of her in her underwear in return for sex and cash has been jailed.

　

Daood Hussain, of St Andrew"s Road, Birmingham, was found guilty of 12 counts of rape and one count of blackmail at Birmingham Crown Court today (15 Jan) and was jailed for 17 years.

　

The court heard that 28-year-old Hussain had mocked up a leaflet which contained an image of his victim in her underwear and a caption with her contact details advertising her as a prostitute.

Forum aims to make West Midlands a hate free place

West Midlands Police hosted a force first with members of the public coming together to pledge their commitment to tackling hate crimes.

 

 

Around 80 delegates representing faith groups, disability rights campaigners and others attended the meeting held at police headquarters in Birmingham on Friday (10 January).

 

 

The event was the first time that representatives from the 100 third-party hate crime reporting centres in the region had been called together with the creation of a new networking forum.

 

 

The centres provide people who have been targeted because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or impairment with an alternative to reporting incidents directly to the police.

Dozens Turn up for Bone Marrow Testing

Queues were seen outside a Sikh temple in Coventry in renewed hope for a bone marrow match to fit a seven-year-old leukaemia sufferer.

 

More than 50 people turned up to give bone marrow samples at Gudwara Guru Nanak Parkash Sikh Temple in hope to find a match for Rhiane Tamna-Francois. The youngster was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukaemia in September and has been battling with the condition ever since being admitted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
