Two-year-old Gaurav Bains, has united the nation with a campaign to find him a stem cell donor, as local communities come together to hold recruitment events up and down the country.

Gaurav, who lives in Tipton is a cute and lively two year old boy like most children his age however, his parents Gurprit and Sunny Bains have to take extra care because he has a rare condition called Monosomy 7, a disease which suppresses his immune system. This means that any of the usual childhood coughs and sneezes are a serious issue for him, resulting in a hospital stay and intravenous antibiotics, which leave him very debilitated. Gaurav urgently needs a bone marrow transplant because without one, he will develop aggressive leukaemia.

It’s not just the public who have been touched by the story, Asian celebrities and singers have been supporting the appeal and Birmingham Bhangra artist Foji Gill has gone that one step further and organised a street party in the heart of Birmingham’s multi-cultural

What’s the big plan for world foods? The potential?

I want to establish Morrisons as being famous providing the most diverse offering; tailored to communities across the UK. My goal is to establish it as being renowned as the most outstanding UK retailer amongst ethnic shoppers. There is undoubtedly huge potential amongst this category; nearly a fifth of the UK population comes from an ethnic background, spending £25bn on groceries, including £1bn on World Foods. Not only this, but as an example, recent research suggests that Halal meat accounts for up to 15% of meat sales in the UK. This year the Halal food festival in London’s Excel Centre drew 20,000 paying visitors, it just proves that the demand is there. The potential is huge.

What makes the Morrisons offer unique?

We have drawn on the latest available customer data to review our customers’ needs on a store-by-store basis and re-planned over 200 stores to ensure the right ranges were available for customers in the right locations.

We’ve doubled the size of the World Foods team and brought in industry experts such as Paul

Listening windows, CCTV and bobbies help crack crime on the buses

Windows which can "listen" and activate CCTV cameras when they are being attacked may sound like science fiction but this groundbreaking technology has hit the streets of Birmingham.

The National Express "Trojan" bus was deployed along the number 6 route in Sparkbrook last night (Tuesday 5 November) in direct response to safety concerns from local people.

Microscopic microphones have been embedded into windows to automatically detect when they are being vandalised.

Rather than listening to passenger conversations, the microphones are calibrated so that they only activate when they "hear" the sound of scratching, cracking or graffiti being daubed on them.

When this is detected, onboard high definition CCTV cameras automatically zoom in on the window to capture the vandal. An alert is also sent to the depot so staff are aware a crime has been committed.

The CCTV can also be monitored live in real-time in the control room by officers watching on secure 4G enabled laptops and tablet computers in a following car.
