Murder victim's wife appeals for help to trace killers

THE WIFE of Ali Jawaid – the delivery driver killed by robbers in Coventry last week – has spoken of the devastating impact his death has had on their young family.

Father-of-two Mr Jawaid died in hospital earlier this week following a vicious attack outside a mobile phone shop in Sewall Highway on the evening of Wednesday November 9 in which he was struck over the head with a metal bar.

Speaking from her Ward End home, Maryam Jawaid described her husband as a warm-hearted, compassionate and affectionate gentleman.

And she's told of the heart-wrenching questions being asked by her two young children who simply want to know when their father will be coming home.

She said: "Our six-year-old son keeps asking for his daddy…he is waking in the night crying asking when he will be back. Our four-year-old daughter is just confused, asking where he is, but is really too young to understand how he's been cruelly taken from her. As a family we are all doing our best to comfort them.

"Ali was brutally attacked by criminals who wanted to take away his livelihood – his life was taken all due to the greed of people who wanted to steal a few mobile phones.

"He worked hard to provide for his family and always succeeded in bringing joy to all of us; he was someone you could rely on and who would go out of his way to help others

"We just want his killers caught…I'd encourage anyone with information to contact police."

Detectives have arrested two 25-year-old men in connection with Mr Jawaid's death – from the Bell Green and Stoke areas of Coventry respectively – who have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Markham, said: "If you saw the attack, suspect who was responsible or have even just been offered a mobile phone for sale…you could have important information so please contact us.

"Mr Jawaid's family are devastated by what has happened and we are doing all we can to bring the killers to justice."

Anyone who witnessed what happened or who has any information about the incident is asked to call 0345 113 5000 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
