Young Entrepreneur Zain talks to Decor Writer Tauseef Hussain

Please give us a brief bio of yourself. I am of 21 years of age and 5ft 10” I’ve been working since a young age and have been involved with many architect companies on a number of developments.

With home owners getting choosier about designing their bathrooms, we are seeing a trend where are allocating more monies for their design and decoration. What are your views on this? Yes, Tauseef, you are absolutely right. Gone are the days when the bathroom was an unimportant part of the house, to be used only for basic purpose or washing up. Home owners did not pay much attention to the quality of bathroom furniture.  However, in the last decade or so, things have changed a lot. From carefully choosing the bathroom furniture combination, to selecting the right colour of the wall, and perfectly matching it with the tiles, decorating a bathroom has now been elevated to a fine art.

What suggestions would you give to home owners who are planning to redesign their bathroom? Well, it all begins with finalising the perfect furniture requirement and a realistic budget allocation for the bathroom furniture and decor. The budget decides the brand and subsequently the quality. Once the home owner freezes the budget, with a 10% escalation margin, they should start checking the different brands offering products across the bathroom furniture range which they have shortlisted.

Where do you suggest they make a start? The trend these days is to research online for the various brands across different furniture categories and price points. As against standalone online brand websites, you should check on online bath product stores, which store various brands at differing price levels. You can browse their entire collection from the comfort of your home, and then accordingly place your order. The biggest advantage of these online multi-brand stores is the clear price advantage that they offer. On some stores the discount is so huge that you will be tempted to buy immediately.

That is a good start I must say. However, wouldn’t the buyer like to see, touch and feel the furniture before making the purchase decision? All the online stores have a full replacement guarantee, if what is delivered is different from what the buyer ordered online, he or she has the full right to return the order. Also, if the furniture is delivered in a damaged condition, then the company will take it right back and replace it with a fresh undamaged piece, without asking any questions. However, for buyers who are not too comfortable with just viewing the images, there are large single brand and multi-brand retail stores across UK, where they can touch and feel the bathroom furniture and then make an informed decision.

Please also advise our readers on how they should go about decorating their bathroom space? Well, now that is an area where, your imagination is the limit. Right from imaginatively striped walls, to antique accessories from around the world, you can enhance your aqua space in interesting ways. A mosaic of different themed tiles over the washbasin is a trend which is fast catching on. A uniquely shaped and framed mirror is enough to stand out strikingly. The furniture should be chosen keeping mind the size and shape of the bathroom. An obscenely large bathtub and shower enclosure in a small bathroom is an immediate visual put off.

Thanks you so much for taking some time out and telling our readers on how best they can go about designing their bathroom. It was a pleasure sharing my thoughts with you and your readers. Thanks for giving me this opportunity.
